Whole 30 Diet - Week 1

"Kwablo's Place"

Our apartment in Harlem

FYI: Kwablo is the combination of the hubby's and my names.

Because of our growing waistlines and bellies, the hubby has decided that he wants us to do the Whole 30 diet. Although the Wikipedia article (technically dietitians) has declared the diet nutritionally unsound, I think it would be nice to eat a bit cleaner (Wiki link, ***). Since the hubby has been handling the food (i.e. cooking) during this quarantine, I guess we are doing this diet. In my defense, I handle all of the takeout and delivery dining options. ;)

I will be honest and say that I'm not 100% following the diet, because I'm still gonna have a drink every now and then. Since I recently purchased a Sodastream, I can make my own semi-bougie vodka and/or gin soda adult beverages. Yeah, I know that I'm about 5-6 years late for the Sodastream revolution. Actually, I think I'm going to search the Internet for recipes on how to make fancy, low sugar tonic water. I will admit that I have been snacking a lot less since getting the Sodastream. I guess the carbonated water makes me feel full longer.

Here are a few pics of the meals from the first few days on the diet.

QUARANTINE HOME COOKING - LAKE GEORGE EDITION

Because of COVID-19, I have not been able to check out local restaurants and be one of those people who takes pictures of his food before devouring it for the sake of posting on social media. Until I’m allowed to mingle with my fellow foodies, I’ll have to post food pics of things that we are making during our “new normal”. BTW, I hate the term, new normal.

We decided to spend a couple of days in Lake George with friends who live in our apartment building.

Keeping it simple - Burgers with homemade buns, sweet potatoes, and asparagus.

A satisfying meal of fresh octopus, tortilla espanola, and ham croquettes. Although I did not prepare the meal, I did make a significant contribution by opening the bottle of wine. I will say that during this quarantine we have been saving money eating in. Had we gone to a Spanish restaurant we probably would have spent $80 (at least) for 1/4th of the food.
