So, I really like running because it is a cheap and easy way to stay in shape. I mean, mostly everyone has two functioning legs and a pair of running shoes. A few years ago, I used to bike to work daily, which was about 4.1 miles from Roosevelt Island to the Upper East Side. However, one day in February, I saw that both of my bicycle tires were flat. Rather than repair the flats, I decided to run to work. This decision was a little reminiscent from the scene in "Forrest Gump" when he decided to run for the heck of it and ended up running across the country. Well I only ran across the East River. Well, if you want to get technical about it, I ran across 1.5 East Rivers.
After that day I really got back into running (I used to run cross country in high school), and completed countless races, half marathons and one NYC full marathon. Actually, I made a goal to run a marathon in a different state and country. I had signed up for the San Francisco and Montreal marathons. Then, I screwed up my back - a herniated disc to be exact. Interestingly, it was not through running but through a DVD fitness program.
Anyway, I am a little better from this injury and I plan to restart my running "career". As luck would have it, I was selected to run in the NYC Half Marathon by lottery - a half marathon I've always wanted to run. Times Square actually is closed to traffic for this race!!! Years ago, I qualified for this race by running 4 out of the 5 outer borough races, sponsored by the New York Road Runners, but I could not do it because I had my back injury. Now, I am trying to meet my goal of running the NYC half marathon March 20th. But, this time I want to do it big by running it in 1 hour and 45 minutes or less.
This blog will be an virtual account of my training runs, cross training routines, races, and my "inspiration" tunes. Perhaps, I will promote merchandise here and there.
See you on the streets.
