Cross Training and General Tiredness

Cross Training (Spin Class): 36' 49'', 132 average bpm, 392 calories, 3,427 steps

Since all the cheapo and free running plans and programs recommend that one should cross train, or do an activity other than running/jogging, to reach your running goals, I really have been incorporating different and random regimens into my training plan. Because the new year brings all sort of random people from the sofa to the gym (which is a good thing for the gym and a terrible thing for gym members), Crunch gym has added a bunch of new classes to their roster. *Side note, how long do new years resolutions last? St. Patrick Day? The end of January?* Yesterday, I decided to do "Ripped Ride" class.

This spin class is supposed to be a little different than your conventional spin classes because it combines spinning with weights, so you can have a nice lower body and upper body workout. While the theory is great, I do not think that it really carried out too efficiently. Do not get me wrong, Tyler L is a great instructor but there should be an option for heavier weights. The spin part of the class was great (Tyler picks awesome music with the perfect amount of beats per minutes); however, the weight part was a little lame. Also, the weight portion lowers your heart rate (because you cannot pedal as fast doing bicep curls), so I think that you are working out as hard. I would have to compare the times my heart rate was in peak mood in previous spin classes to this one. Going further for cardio cross training, I think that I will do regular spin, swim, or HIIT.

Part II: NYC Half Marathon Training Run 11 out of 45

Easy Run: 1.73 mi, 13' 46'', 7' 55'' min/mi pace, 2, 175 steps.

Man, today's run actually was a bust because I was supposed to run 4 miles but I ended up running only 1.73 lame miles, which clearly is less than half of my planned distance The thing is that I wasn't tired from running, super cold, or even injured; I was just tired overall. I have this issue where I can never fall asleep before 1/2/3am. Last night I made an effort to prepare myself for this mooring's 6:00am, 6:13am, and 6:34am alarms - ironed and packed my work clothes for the day, packed my laptop bag, and laid out my running clothes. Come to this morning, I hit snooze all three times and make it onto the street to start my run at 8:15am - more than an hour after I was supposed to start running. Then one the way to work, I was falling asleep on the subway, something that I really hate doing. So, I will have to change something up to ensure that I will get an adequate amount of sleep for my runs. Besides my runs, I am really making an effort to arrive to work before 9:30am.
