Road to Recovery: Week 3

October 31, 2023

Preface

I guess I can get rid of the above Marine Corps Marathon image since the marathon happened over the past weekend, and of course, I was not one of the runners. Congrats to the folks who ran any of the MCM races over the weekend. HA! Maybe it was a “good” thing that I could not run this marathon. Why? The weather was in the mid to high 70s – this definitely is NOT marathon running weather.

Working out:

I have to say that I have been pretty good with hitting the gym and doing my BoDi workouts (cardio boxing and yoga). Yea me!

Quick Planet Fitness rant (maybe more of an observation):

OMG! My mind was blown over the weekend. Since I had to go into the office on Saturday, I figured that it would be better to find a Planet Fitness near work rather than going to my local one.

Planet Fitness Rockville, MD

This gym was so freaking nice and put my local Planet Fitness to shame for a few reasons:

  • Everything was so clean and well maintained

  • More FUNCTIONING cardio equipment

  • A larger facility with plenty of free weights and stretching areas

  • Limited number of riff raff clientele

  • The bathroom/locker room did not remind me of a dirty airport bathroom.

  • Free parking

This location definitely will go into my Planet Fitness rotation, especially for my in-office days. Actually, visiting this gym might make my life easier. Since I tend to use public transportation during my in-office days (Tuesdays and Thursdays), here’s my routine:

  1. Take the bus from work (Bethesda) to the gym (Silver Spring) ~40-60 minutes

  2. Workout

  3. Take another bus from the gym to home ~20-30 minutes

Sometimes, the gym doesn’t happen because I’m too tired (or unmotivated) by the time I arrive to Silver Spring after riding the bus for 40-60 minutes. Instead of going to the gym, I’ll just take the next bus to home. The Planet Fitness near work is only a 10-minute bus ride. Also for my post-workout commute, I would need to take only ONE bus that will drop me off a few feet from our home. I’ll test out the new routine this week.

Goals for the week:

-Try to do two ~3mi runs this week.

-Find some sort of returning to running plan/schedule. I think that I would like to run a half marathon sometime in February.

-Start going to bed at a reasonable hour because I want to hit the gym around 5-6 am.

-Do a better job with planning my meals.
