Citi Zeni – Eat Your Salad
Did he just say: Instead of eating meat, I eat veggies and p*ssy. I like them both fresh and juicy? *clutching some pearls*
Vocal:
I like the combination of the “spoken word”/rap (the guy in the olive shut) with the chorus (the guy in the red suit), but the guy singing the chorus kind of saved the song for me.
Musical Arrangement:
Aside from the first line of the song, I kind of like the song especially with the funk-rock-soul influences. They definitely took a page out of Moldova’s playbook (“The Epic Sax Guy” from ESC 2010) with the sax break
Staging:
You can tell that these guys are having fun with the performance with their crazy dance moves and are not taking themselves too seriously. I’m not really sure what else they could do with the staging to elevate the performance.
Final Thoughts:
While this song is oodles of fun, I think it might have a struggle in qualifying even though I gave it three stars. For this one, I think the national juries may hate on the song for the multiple sexual inuendos. However, it might make it to the finals based on the power of the public votes. This one could definitely go either way. To be honest, I’m more of a fan of the sound/musical arrangement than the actual lyric content
Lativa in last year’s Eurovision:
Samanta Tina - The Moon is Rising
Semi-final results: 17th place out of 17 performances (14 total points – 4 national juries and 10 public votes). I was a bit surprised that she did not receive any points or very few points from its neighbors Lithuania and Estonia.
Final results: Since she did not place within the top ten in her semifinal heat, she did not qualify for the final.
I guess that I was the only person who liked the song. I kind of felt bad for Samanta because she has tried for so long to compete in Eurovision. I think that I heard she has tried for at least seven years for a crack at Eurovision. After hearing the song and watching the official music video, I just knew for sure this was going to qualify to the final especially since it’s a bit of a woman empowerment theme. Clearly, I was wrong. I think the song did not qualify because there was waaaaay too much going on in the song – the strong (maybe too strong) vocal, the repetitive sound effects, and the crazy (in a fun way for me) beats.
Because I’m a fan of R&B, I thought her voice and the song were very good in the studio version. Honestly, I could see someone like Blu Cantrel performing a similar song. However, on stage, Samanta was a bit off-key and had a few moments of scream-singing, which never goes over well. While I loved the lighting effects in the staging, I wish there was more in terms of movement because she pretty much chilled in the same spot for the entire three minutes. Also, I do not get the point of the three women on the side of the stage because they did not really add anything to the performance. I’m sure there was a reason for them being there, but it was not very clear . . . at least to me.
